CODDE®
DATABASE CONTENT
Created in 1996, CODDE® database is an LCI database made up of generic data sets and sectoral data sets suited for electrotechnic sector. Data are selected for its relevance (e.g. PlasticsEurope, worldsteel association) or developed by LCIE Bureau Veritas.
CODDE® database contains more than 1,500 data sets. It is published in EIME in 2 formats:
- CODDE® Static: version of the CODDE® database available to all EIME users once a year.
- CODDE® Dynamic: version of the CODDE® database updated quarterly. It guarantees users permanent access to the latest work of LCIE Bureau Veritas.
🏷️Generic
The Generic database contains more than 1,000 data sets to cover the majority of needs:
- Energy production (~ 300 data sets)
- Production of virgin and recycled materials (~ 500 data sets)
- Manufacturing processes (~ 120 data sets)
- Transport of goods and consumer goods (~ 45 data sets)
- Waste treatment and recycling (~ 150 data sets)
🏷️Electric & Electronic
The Electrical & Electronic sector database contains 450 data sets to cover the entire life cycle of manufacturing of electronic cards and electrical systems:
- The printed wired board
- The components (resistance, capacitors, semiconductors, etc.)
- The finishing and soldering processes of the components on the printed wired board
- The systems (cables, batteries, screens, etc.)
The Electrical & Electronics sector database is delivered in EIME with the ecosystem database (1,400 data sets).
🏷️2050 Targets 🆕
Created in July 2024, the 2050 Targets sectoral database contains a set of data to estimate the environmental profile of products by 2050.
- The 1st data sets with the "2050 Targets" tag are the electricity production mixes of France by 2050, as defined by ADEME and RTE.
This sectoral database will be updated gradually until 2050, when the generic CODDE® database will take over.
BUREAU VERITAS EXPERTISE
CODDE® database was founded by electro-technology industries within the Federation of Electrical, Electronic and Communication Industries (FIEEC).
The first version of CODDE® database was published in 1996 when the EIME software was released. Subsequent updates have gradually enriched the database.
Since 2007, LCIE Bureau Veritas has been responsible for developing CODDE® database, continuing its mission of providing high-quality data for environmental assessments of consumer goods products.
In 2012, a major revision was conducted with the integration of the ELCD database and compliance with the requirements of the ILCD handbook. Since then, developments have followed one another (EF 3.0, EF 3.1).
The expertise of LCIE Bureau Veritas in the electrotechnical sector and its knowledge of the operational needs of manufacturers has led to CODDE® database being the most widely used LCI database for producing PEP ecopassport® files.
INDICATOR SETS
In EIME, CODDE® database can be used with different indicator sets:
- "EN 15804+A2 - PEF 3.0 indicators" indicator set: set based on the characterization factors established by the European Commission (method according to EF 3.0 EN 15804)
- "EN 15804+A2 - PEF 3.1 indicators" indicator set: set based on the characterization factors established by the European Commission (method according to EF 3.1 EN 15804)
- "TRACI 2.1" indicator set: set based on the characterization factors established by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
📋 Archived indicator sets: "ILCD - Level I & II", "EN 15804+A1/CN", "PEP ecopassport® - PCR 2.1", "PEP ecopassport® - PCR 3.0"
COMPLIANCE & APPLICATIONS
CODDE® database meets the requirements of ISO 14040/44 standards as well as the ILCD entry level requirements. The applications are:
- Eco-design assistance
- Comparative or non-comparative LCA studies
- Product Carbon Footprint Declarations (CFP)
- Type III Product Environmental Declarations (PEP ecopassport®, EPD System, FDES)
