ECOSYSTEM
DATABASE CONTENT
ecosystem database aims to describe the end-of-life treatement of each material per WEEE flow as they are managed within the framework of the French WEEE sector. For each material (classified per WEEE flow), the LCIs are building using 2 methods:
- without integrating the benefits that are provided by the material or energy substitution effects
- with integrating the benefits that are provided by the material or energy substitution effects
To facilitate the modeling of LCA studies, LCIE Bureau Veritas has created complementary LCIs describing only the benefits. In total, more than 1,400 LCI data sets are available in EIME
ecosystem database is delivered with CODDE®'s Electrical & Electronics database.
ECOSYSTEM EXPERTISE
ecosystem is a public interest company whose role is to extend the life of electrical and electronic equipment (EEE).
To ensure good data representativeness, ecosystem has modeled the entire end-of-life process of equipment on more than 50 waste treatment sites for electrical and electronic equipment as well as on around fifteen recovery or disposal channels.
Tonnes and units collected in 2023:
- Household: 641,030 tonnes or approximately 137.7 million units collected
- Professional: 88,992 tonnes
- Lamps: 5,321 tonnes or approximately 54 million units collected
Ecosystem is a major player in WEEE recycling in France and Europe.
INDICATOR SETS
In EIME, ecosystem database can be used with different indicator sets:
- "EN 15804+A2 - PEF 3.0 indicators" indicator set: set based on the characterization factors established by the European Commission (method according to EF 3.0 EN 15804)
- "EN 15804+A2 - PEF 3.1 indicators" indicator set: set based on the characterization factors established by the European Commission (method according to EF 3.1 EN 15804)
- "TRACI 2.1" indicator set: set based on the characterization factors established by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
📋 Archived indicator sets: "ILCD - Level I & II", "EN 15804+A1/CN", "PEP ecopassport® - PCR 2.1", "PEP ecopassport® - PCR 3.0"
COMPLIANCE & APPLICATIONS
ecosystem database meets the requirements of ISO 14040/44 standards as well as the ILCD entry level requirements. The applications provided by ecosystem are:
- Eco-design assistance
- Comparative or non-comparative LCA studies
- Product Carbon Footprint Declarations (CFP)
- Type III Product Environmental Declarations (PEP ecopassport®)
- Environmental labelling (via the intégration of LCI data sets in ADEME's Empreinte® database)
