📢New Step in the Environmental Assessment of Telecom Networks
ADEME publishes, in collaboration with LCIE Bureau Veritas, the PCR (Product Category Rules) dedicated to Internet Service Provider (ISP) equipments.
This framework:
- Proposes an LCA method covering the entire equipment lifecycle, including refurbishment
- Sets default hypothesis to be used, particularly regarding semiconductor manufacturing, maintenance, or product’s end-of-life
- Clarifies alignment with the international standard ITU-T L.1410

Originally, this method was included as an appendix to the PCR "Internet Service Provider" This reference framework is now a standalone document that supports:
- Environmental assessment of equipments, carried out under Article 13 of the AGEC law to standardize data transmitted by equipment manufacturers to ISPs
- Environmental assessment of greenhouse gas emissions (BEGES in french) of companies in the telecommunications sector to standardize some of the input data for the framework developed by InfraNum
This work is part of the Alt Impact program (ADEME – Inria – CNRS), dedicated to digital sobriety, and ADEME's work on assessing the environmental impacts of digital technology.
This method is available on the ADEME librairy.
🙏 Thank you to equipment manufacturers, operators, and experts for their commitment. And to Firmin DOMON of LCIE Bureau Veritas for all his work.
